MADURAI: This year’s first two toppers of Madurai district had the same strategy all through the year for Plus Two examinations.

They believed in perfect planning, self-preparation, time table for individual subjects and a firm no to outside tuitions, except what was taught by school teachers.

“Everyone wants success but only a few are willing to put in hard work. I personally felt that tuitions were waste of time and hence had my own preparation,” says R. Santhosh Subramanian of CEOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School (Madurai), who stood first in the district first with 1,168 marks. He wants to join an engineering course. He scored 196 in physics, 197 in chemistry, 199 in biology and 196 in mathematics.

While the usual suspect at home, namely cable TV, was ‘cut’ by his parents, the Principal, Mary Ransom Jose, says that team work of teachers paid off well. “A systematic preparation from the beginning is the best strategy for success and this year 55 of our Plus Two students scored more than 1,000 marks,” the jubilant Principal said.

The girl who was district second, K. Dhivya of Jeevana Matriculation Higher Secondary School, too was not interested in tuitions but opted for self-planning which was supported by her doctor mother. The marks she scored were 200 in biology, 199 in chemistry/ physics and 198 in mathematics.

However, the third topper K. Alice Jesuntha of SBOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School went for maths/physics tuitions but she said that her mother spent a lot of time encouraging her to be thorough with one mark questions for better scoring.

“It was Jesus’ gift and teachers’ prayers that helped me score 1,166 marks,” a joyful Jesuntha, whose father is IOC terminal manager at Tuticorin, said.
