SCB poll campaign hots up

Staff Reporter

Polls scheduled to be held on May 18

Congress leaders support rival candidates in Ward No. 2

Ward No. 6 candidate plans to rope in film actor Sreehari

HYDERABAD: Campaigning has picked up momentum in Secunderabad Cantonment localities which will go to polls on May 18, as senior leaders of different parties are moving in to help the candidates woo the voters.

While MLC K. Janardhan Reddy accompanied his son and ward number two contestant, K. Thirupathi Reddy, on Friday in canvassing at Rasoolpura, Siddipet MP Sarve Satyanarayana joined ward number four contestant G. Suresh and ward number seven candidate P. Shyam Kumar during the campaign.

Such is the intensity of canvassing that both the leaders who are from the same party are campaigning for rival candidates in Ward No. 2. While Mr. Reddy canvassed for his son K. Thirupathi Reddy, Mr. Satyanarayana is backing S. Keshava Reddy another contestant from the same ward.

Poll promises

Accompanied by party workers, the father and son duo hit the campaign trail as early as 7 a.m. on Friday apparently to beat the heat and also catch the voters before they get busy with their occupation.

Assuring to provide basic amenities, Mr. Reddy promised to implement several government welfare schemes, including Indiramma Housing scheme and distribution of pensions to the aged in Cantonment area this year.

Streets decked up

Even as candidates are trying hard to outdo each other in canvassing, streets and roads in the eight wards of SCB are decked up with posters, banners and vinyl hoardings. Be it Rasoolpura crossroads or the Ambedkar Nagar slum, colourful banners and booths of respective candidates welcome one into the localities.

Bharatiya Janata Party senior leader Indrasena Reddy too joined the canvassing in ward number one in favour of R. Jyothi.

Glamour element

In a bid to add some glamour to the SCB polls, candidate in ward number Six B. Narmada is planning to rope in film actor Sreehari for canvassing.
