18-year-old found murdered in Lodhi Colony

NEW DELHI: An 18-year-old boy who had appeared for his Class XII Board examinations recently was found murdered at his residence in Lodhi Colony here on Friday. The police suspect robbery to be the motive as a Santro car and some valuables were found missing from the house.

According to the police, the ghastly murder came to light around 5-30 p.m. when Preeti Sachdeva, who works in the Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry, returned home and found the main entrance to the ground-floor flat latched from outside.

When she entered the house, she found blood splattered on the walls and her son Sanchit lying in a pool of blood. He had head injuries and had apparently died of excessive bleeding. A stunned Ms. Sachdeva rushed to her neighbour and the police were called in.

Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that entry to the house was friendly, suggesting that someone known to the boy was involved in the murder. The police suspect that the assailant(s) after gaining entry into the house incapacitated Sanchit by banging his head against the wall or by hitting him with a heavy object. They then collected the valuables and drove away in the Santro car.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi) H.G.S. Dhaliwal said the family was yet to give details of the missing articles. A forensic team lifted fingerprints and collected other evidence from the scene of crime. A case of murder has been registered and the police are planning to question the domestic help and other acquaintances of the victim’s family.

Sanchit, whose father R. K. Sachdeva is a personal assistant to a Bharat Petroleum official, had been preparing for engineering entrance examinations. His elder brother Utkarsh is pursuing engineering at a college in Ahmedabad.
