MYSORE: As many as 26 heads of schools from the Republic of Maldives are returning home after successfully completing the special M.Ed. course in school management which was launched by the University of Mysore at the Regional Institute of Education (RIE) here in February 2007. The three-semester course was specifically tailored to cater to the needs of international clientele, such as those from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation countries, to function as managers of schools. At the farewell function organised for the school heads here on Wednesday, RIE principal G.T. Bhandage called upon the headmasters to implement the knowledge which they had gained during their stay at the RIE in their country’s context to make it more functional. AdviceM.S. Lalithamma, chairperson, Department of Education, University of Mysore, asked them to implement the administrative skills which they had learnt as part of the course in the Maldivian context. Abdulla, leader of the Maldivian group, and Wajeed and Aniyan, school heads, appreciated the efforts of the RIE in organising the course. The purpose of the course is to prepare professionals to discharge various academic, administrative and supervisory responsibilities in the education sector. Palachandra, head of the Department of Education, and N.N. Prahallada, academic co-ordinator of the programme, also spoke.
