Boys bag all three top slots here

KARUR: Pass percentage in the recent Plus Two examination in Karur district touched 92, three per cent up over last year. A total of 5,788 out of 6,291 students who took the tests came up trumps. Incidentally boys bagged the top three positions in the district in aggregate.

Cheran Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Vennamalai, near here produced the first two ranks while a student of the P.A. Vidya Bhavan, Thalapatty, near here occupied the third slot.

G. Anish Balaji of Cheran Matric scored 1177 out of 1,200 to top the district. Son of S. Ganesh Ram, a surgeon, and P.K. Latha, a physician, Anish wanted to pursue Electronics and Communication Engineering. He scored 190 in Tamil, 188 in English and 200 each in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, while scoring one less in Computer Science. He said that he never shut out entertainment for studies. His schoolmate P. Santhosh scored 1174 to bag the runner up spot with scores of 194 in Tamil, 184 in English, centum in Mathematics, 199 in Physics and 198 in Biology. He too wanted to join ECE. Mohammed Shafiq Ali of Arasankulam near Aranthangi, who was studying as a hosteller in the PA Vidya Bhavan scored 1170 to walk away with the third slot in aggregate in Karur district.

Son of Ibnusugudhu who is working in Saudi Arabia and Amita Mumtaz Bhanu, Shafiq wanted to take up employment in India itself.

A total of 3,317 girls and 2,974 boys took the Plus Two exams in the district of which 3,127 girls and 2,661 boys came out successful. While 94.27 per cent girls passed only 89.48 per cent of boys who took it succeeded. A total of 608 students scored centum in the subjects with Audit and Accountancy II (256 students) and Audit and Accountancy I (219 students) topping the list of subjects in which centum were scored. In Mathematics 47 students scored full marks while in Chemistry and physics four and three students respectively scored cent per cent.

A total of 12 schools in various categories in the district produced 100 per cent pass in the Plus Two this year.

That included two government, aided and self financing schools each, one Welfare School, five matriculation schools.
