New Delhi: As inflation soared to a nearly four-year high, the CPI(M) on Friday said the government should worry if the trend was not arrested. “Inflation is there. The government will have to worry about it if it is not brought under control,” CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat told reporters here. Inflation went up to 7.61 per cent in the week ending April 26 on costlier tea, spices, fruits, vegetables and some manufactured products. The CPI(M), which supports the ruling UPA coalition from outside, had charged the government with making a “wrong diagnosis” of the causes behind price rise and said the steps announced to control inflation would in fact stifle the high growth rate. It demanded a ban on futures trading in 25 commodities, alleging that allowing multinational companies to get into speculative trading in food grains had “resulted in price rise.” — PTI
