VISAKHAPATNAM: It was a unique learning experience for ten budding chess players, eight of whom have already make a mark at the district, state and national chess championships, from the City of Destiny on Friday.
The children were delighted to receive tips from Grand Master Viswanathan Anand. They could not only watch him make the moves and hear him, but also interact with him.
The Grand Master began the session by telling the children about the basics of the board game like how to position the king, queen, bishop, pawn and knight and went on to explain them about the best moves to checkmate the opponent.
At the end of the session, the Grand Master fielded questions from participants across the country. COO of NIIT, P. Rajendran spoke.
Praveen Kumar, Lalita, Gayatri, Sampath, Kusagara Gupta (all national players), Yatharatha Gupta and P. Sai Anish (both State-level players), Viswanath (district U-11 player) and V. Sai Rohan and D.V. Asash participated. NIIT Vizag Centre Head N.P. Kishore was present.
