Search launched for kidnapped youths

Staff Reporter

KHAMMAM: Led by the tribal chiefs – a large number of people from Tippapuram in Charla mandal have launched a massive search operation for the two tribal youths kidnapped reportedly by the CPI (Maoists) from the village on Monday last. They had no information about their whereabouts so far. The villagers were frantically trying to locate the Maoists camps in the timber reserves of Bastar. If necessary, they are out to bargain for a reprieve.

Some 70 armed naxalites of the CPI ( Maoist ) whisked away the two youths -Gabba Chander Rao and Sahupalli Srinu from the village. Six others from another forest village – Yampuram, falling in the limits of Pamedu police in Chhattisgarh were also kidnapped along with them on the same day suspecting all of them to be instrumental for the March 18 encounter that left 17 Maoist leaders killed near Kanchala in Pamedu forests.

According to reports reaching here – four of the tribal youths kidnapped from Yampuram- Payam Ramaiah , Sunnam Sattibabu , Madakam Kannaiah and Sunnam Muttaiah were killed by the kidnappers and abandoned the bodies on the outskirts. The bodies were said to have been cremated by the village people. The residents of Yampuram however remained tight lipped. They were keeping away from the press teams that have been frequenting the village.

The fear of Maoist reprisal, however, triggered an exodus of the tribal families from the area. Many families were bound for Charla mandal. In the meantime the police also stepped up their presence on the inter State border.
