Bankers’ aid sought for welfare schemes

KADAPA: Bankers should cooperate in implementation of the Government’s welfare schemes and further the development of poorer sections, District Collector M.T. Krishna Babu said on Friday.

Speaking after inaugurating the seventh branch of the State Bank of Hyderabad near Apsara Circle here, he said the bank has 1,006 branches in the State. Economic empowerment of poor was being achieved by ensuring grant of loans through banks, he said.

SBH Deputy General Manager of Tirupati zone P. M. Ganapathi said the bank offered online and Internet banking services. Account-holders could draw up to Rs. 25,000 in the bank ATMs without any service charges. SBH transacted business of Rs. 87,811 crore of business by the end of March 2008. The bank earned a net profit of Rs. 557 crore.
