Multi-storeyed complexes for micro sector

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Multi-storeyed complexes will be built on Guindy, Ambattur and Tirumazhisai industrial estates for the micro sector in view of land shortage and rising prices of plots in Chennai, Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Rural Industries Minister, told the Assembly on Wednesday.

The floor space index of the buildings will be kept at 2.5, Mr. Palanisamy said, concluding the debate on the demands for grants to his department.

Recalling that the government came out with the Micro, Small and Medium Industries Policy 2008 in February, he said it had issued guidelines for availing of the concessions and incentives.

The Small Industries Development Corporation would establish industrial estates at Ariyalur, Kanyakumari, Dindigul and Theni districts. Development works for establishing a women’s industrial park at Kappalur, Madurai district and techno parks at Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam and Vinnamangalam, Vellore, would be completed by October. The Rs.61.1-crore work of upgrading the Ambattur, Thirumudivakkam and Thirumazhisai industrial estates in Chennai would be completed before June. As for the Guindy industrial estate, the infrastructure improvement, estimated to cost Rs.22 crore, would be completed by September. The fourth all India census of micro, small and medium enterprises would be undertaken this year with the financial assistance of the Centre, he said.
