Cinema is no longer considered as a medium for entertainment per se. It makes us think, help us familiarise ourselves with our surroundings and neighbours, chairman of the State Film Academy K.R. Mohan has said. He was inaugurating a Film-TV appreciation workshop here on Thursday. Children form the basis for mainstream cinema and the success of any film is largely attributed to children and how the film has succeeded in entertaining them. “Since cinema is a medium which remains close to people, the study of cinema is very essential,” pointed out Mr. Mohan. He is also concerned about the fact that there are only very few movies that are children-centric. He has requested the Education Department to include film studies in the school syllabus. The camp which is concentrating on children aged between 9 and 17 years will be conducted for teachers too in future. This is enable them to assist their pupils in appreciating a film. The workshop will be on for three days.
