BANGALORE: So you think your vote does not count? Think again. The police seized Rs. 15.37 crore in cash, Rs. 1.6 lakh worth Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) and Rs. 5.51 crore worth assorted consumer articles meant to be used to woo voters. As much as Rs. 10.36 crore of the cash was recovered from Bellary district alone. The seizure was part of the enforcement of the model code of conduct over the past 17 days. Cases bookedThe police have booked cases for disfigurement of public places, illegally stocking or transporting liquor and violations of provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Representation of the People Act and the Karnataka Police Act. From Bellary district, which is going to polls in the second phase on May 16, the police have so far recovered Rs. 10.36 crore in cash — Rs. 10 crore on April 23 alone. The Bellary police recovered saris and television sets worth Rs. 27.52 lakh, apart from seizing IMFL worth Rs. 16,010 that was illegally stored or transported. In Mandya district, the police on Thursday seized Rs. 3.21 crore in cash, and goods worth Rs. 86.13 lakh, including liquor worth Rs. 86,200. From Ramanagara district, where the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy is contesting, the police recovered goods estimated at Rs. 48.19 lakh and Indian-made foreign liquor estimated at Rs. 16.96 lakh. As much as Rs. 45.17 lakh cash was recovered in Mysore city, Rs. 46.49 lakh in Mysore district and Rs. 88 lakh in Raichur. Belgaum district tops in liquor seizure with Rs. 78.41 lakh worth. About Rs. 1.13 crore worth of goods was seized in Chickballapur district, leading to 27 cases being booked. In Bangalore city, the police said it was Rs. 20.07 lakh worth, while it was Rs. 30.86 lakh, Rs. 21.55 lakh and Rs. 46.49 lakh in Kolar, Koppal and Mysore districts.
