Youth impatient, says Shobhaa De
Staff Reporter
Shobha De with her new book
BANGALORE: Columnist and author Shobhaa De on Wednesday launched her book Superstar India- From Incredible to Unstoppable here on Wednesday.
Later in a conversation with Arundhati Nag, Ms. De said the youth were more impatient for changes and assertive than those from previous generations and were willing to take on corruption more actively.
She said: “We should have been more proactive and less disillusioned. We should have made sure that our voices were heard. We could have made the changes instead of waiting for miracles to happen.”
On the phenomenon of Mayawati, an aspect she has referred to in her book, she said that “it was the elitism among the English media of India” that did not see the rise of the Dalit power.
Centre stage
“Mayawati and her constituency represent an India we do not know of and do not wish to know,” she said of the upper-middle class before stating that regional parties have come of age and are ready to take centre stage in national politics.
The launch was organised by Penguin Books and Taj Residency.
