Retired ACP deposes in transistor blasts case

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A retired Assistant Commissioner of Police, who was then the Station House Officer of the Patel Nagar police station in West Delhi, deposed in the 1985 transistor blasts case before a court here on Wednesday claiming that he had recovered ammunition and other crucial documents from prime accused M. S. Oberoi.

Deposing before Additional Sessions Judge Vinod Kumar, retired ACP M. D. Mehta told the court that he had recovered a pistol and 39 live cartridges from Oberoi while probing the blasts that had occurred at various places in the Capital and neighbouring areas. The blasts had claimed 49 lives and left 127 people injured. Because of their similar nature, all the transistor blast cases were clubbed together and are being heard by a Patiala House court.

During cross-examination by Additional Public Prosecutor V. K. Sharma, the former police officer said he had also recovered the purchase receipt for ammonium nitrate which the accused had bought from a shopkeeper. The chemical was allegedly used in preparing the bomb.
