Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: Central Bureau of Investigation officials made surprise visit to the HAL Airport on Monday and found the Customs officials allowing passengers to carry articles evading payment of Customs Duty.
A team of officers from the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch made surprise check at the arrival area of the international terminal.
They found two passengers coming by a Bangkok flight carrying LCD colour televisions, 10 bottles of whiskey, car stereo and some readymade garments.
The two passengers had evaded payment of Rs. 76,364 as Customs Duty.
They found customs officials possessing articles such as liquor bottles, chocolate boxes, printed circuit boxes and passports of Indian/foreign nations.
In a press release, the CBI said a detailed probe was being done to find the modus operandi of the officers, their role and the extent of loss caused to public exchequer.
