Anirudh Bhat moves ahead

NEW DELHI: Goa’s Anirudh Bhat snatched the lead with a resounding 37-move victory over Karnataka’s R.U. Anantharam in the seventh round of the Parsvnath National under-9 chess championship at the Bapu Samaj Sewa Kendra here on Saturday.

Top seed Arjun Bharat (Karnataka) drew with second seed Hetul Shah Gujarat in 45 moves on the second board.

Anirudh leads with 6.5 points, half a point ahead of Anantharam, Hetul, Harshal Shahi, M. Aaditya and Aditya Vaidya.

Ivana beats Meghna

In the girls’ section, two-time World under-8 champion and top seed Ivana Furtado ended the winning streak of Kerala’s C.H. Meghna.

Ivana, Meghna, S. Akhila, Shiny Das and Sribrinda Rout share the lead with six points.
