AC Guards wins

HYDERABAD: AC Guards XI scored a 2-1 win over Royal Club in the A-2 Division hockey league championship at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Sunday.

Syed Ibrahim scored the first goal in the fifth minute for AC Guards only to see Sai of Royal Club equalise in the 20th.

In the second session, Ashraf Ali netted the match-winner for AC Guards.

In another match, Deccan Blues and Osmania University were locked in a four-all draw. For Deccan Blues Akbar Hussain netted a brace while Kirpal Singh and Vinay Reddy scored once each.

For Osmania, Sumeet struck twice and Manjunath and Kushwant scored one apiece.

Indian Airlines scored a 3-0 win over Young Turks in the last match.

In the B-Division League, Cantonment Area Sports Club defeated Independent Club 3-1 at AOC Grounds with K. Stephen, T. Dinesh and Suresh being the scorers for CASC while M. Ravinder reduced the margin for the loser.

Deccan Stars defeated TPI Ltd 4-1 in another match with Abdullah , Manhan and Sattar (2) being the scorers for Deccan Stars while for the loser, Mohd Giazuddin scored.

Baseball trials

The Hyderabad District Baseball Association will organise selection trials at Marredpally Grounds on Sunday from 6.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. to pick the team for the senior inter-district championship to be held in Eluru from May 9 to 11. Those interested may contact Phone No. 98496 42031.
