Vijay Mallya on a high

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Royal Challengers’ first win on home turf brought cheer to a large number of supporters but possibly the one most elated was Mr Vijay Mallya, the owner of the team.

When Deccan Chargers failed to get a boundary off the last ball of the match, crackers placed at various points on the roof of the stadium went off in an awesome display of light and sound.

Vijay Mallya was quickly down to the presentation area and was flashing the victory sign to a large number of spectators who were cheering loudly.

He placed a cap on Rohit Sharma after the latter had collected his cheque for the most number of sixes in the match and gave away the trophy to the winning captain, Rahul Dravid.

Charu Sharma, the CEO of the team was also visibly relieved with the narrow win.

South African Commentator Robin Jackman and Ajay Jadeja were heard analysing the match in the lift and Jackman commented “the Royal Challengers would have come in for some serious stick from Mr Mallya had they lost the match.”

Some persons in the stands were also heard to remark that Mr Mallya was ready to auction his team (to the lowest bidder) but with this win has changed his mind.
