Khade sets National records

BANGALORE: Virdhawal Khade won a gold and a silver in the 50m butterfly and the 400m freestyle respectively, breaking the National records in both events, on the third day of Malaysian Open swimming championship at Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

Sandeep Sejwal, who made the qualifying mark in the 100m breaststroke, also made the cut in the 200m breaststroke for the Olympics.

Khade set a new National record time of 24.91s in the butterfly event, breaking his own Indian record of 25.07 set earlier in the day in qualifying. The previous National record (25.13) was held by Ankur Poseria.

Khade clocked 4:01.87 in the 400m freestyle, shaving more than 4 seconds off Rehan Poncha’s mark of 4:05.94.

Sejwal, clocked 2:18.23s — a new National Record and a NMR to bag the gold in the 200m breast stroke. This performance was also under the Olympic qualifying time of 2:18.37s. — Special Correspondent
