The Hindu in final

HYDERABAD: The Hindu entered the final of the inter-media cricket tournament organised by the Press Club of Hyderabad when it beat Vaartha by 29 runs in the semifinals on Friday.

The scores: The Hindu 93 for seven (Srimanth 29) bt Vaartha 64 for seven (Swaroop five for 12).

Inter-District wrestling

The Andhra Pradesh Amateur Wrestling Association will organise the inter-District junior championship for boys and girls at the Lal Bahadur Stadium here from May 5 to 6.

The teams to take part in the 27th junior Nationals in Orissa from May 22 to 25 will be selected during the above meet.

HCCE XI triumphs

A good knock by Ashley Trevor (62) helped HUDA-HCCE XI record a two-wicket win with a ball to spare over State Bank of Indore in the final of the inter-State corporate challenger Trophy cricket tournament in Indore.

Faiz Ahmed and Pravith Kumar, both from HCCE XI, were adjudged the best all-rounder and best bowler of the tournament respectively, while Ashley Trevor, also of the same team, was named the best batsman. The winner also won the best disciplined team award.

The scores: Final: State Bank of Indore 115 for nine (Nitin Kulkarni 61) lost to HUDA-HCCE XI 118 for eight in 19.5 overs (Ashley Trevor 62).

Final on May 4

The final of the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy Challenge Cup prize money football tournament will be held at the Trimulgherry Grounds on May 4, according to a press release.

Five senior football players will be felicitated and presented Rs. 5,000 each. The winner of the tournament will be richer by Rs. 1 lakh and the runner-up by Rs. 50,000 and the third-placed team will get Rs. 25,000.

Fort Union advances

At Visakhapatnam, Fort Union FC moved into the semifinals of the Bhupathi Raju Memorial football tournament beating Deichmann Club 2-0 in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Rajkumar scored the first goal in the 17th minute and Veerraju found the target 20 minutes after the break.

Ganesh scored once in each half to help Sri Polamamba FC (Chittivalasa) beat Visakhapatnam Steel Plant 2-0 to enter the quarterfinals. Ganesh scored in the 16th and 46th minutes.
