Selection trials

NEW DELHI: Trials to select the Delhi team for the 62nd Santosh Trophy National football championship will be held from 4 p.m. at the Ambedkar Stadium on May 5. Interested players may report to the camp chairman Hem Chand. There will be a camp in preparation for the tournament, following the selection.

Delhi has been clubbed with Tripura and Gujarat in cluster III in the national championship to be staged in Jammu and Kashmir from May 25 to June 15.

Punjab, Kerala, West Bengal and Maharashtra have been directedly placed in the quarterfinal league while four other teams will make the grade through the qualifying event featuring 27 teams positioned in eight clusters.

Air India in final

Fine batting by Manvinder Bisla and Vijay Dahiya guided Air India, North, to a five-wicket victory over Haryana Colts in the semifinals of the 18th all-India Om Nath Sood memorial cricket tournament at the Roshanara Club ground on Friday.

Chasing 230, Air India got off to a flier as opener Vijay Dahiya smashed 48 off 33 balls. Ravneet Ricky (38) and ‘man-of-the- match’ Manvinder Bisla (67) continued the good work to ensure victory for the team with more than five overs to spare.

Earlier, Dhruv Singh hit an unbeaten 69 to help last year’s runner-up Haryana Colts, which opted to bat, post a good total. Sumit Sharma (38) was the other batsman to come up with a decent contribution while the rest were unable to capitalise on good starts.

In the final, Air India will meet the defending champion Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on Sunday.

The scores: Haryana Colts 229 for seven in 40 overs (Dhruv Singh 69 n.o.) lost to Air India, North, 233 for five in 34.5 overs (Manvinder Bisla 67, Vijay Dahiya 48).
