Arvind stars in Kedar CA triumph

CHENNAI: S. Arvind scored 94 as Kedar’s CA won the under-11 Pearls cricket tournament which concluded here on Wednesday. Kedar’s defeated TE-IPL by 117 runs in the final.

Arvind was adjudged the best batsman in the tournament. P. Ajith, also from Kedar’s, was declared the best bowler while Varun Vamsi of TE-IPL was named the best all-rounder.

The scores (final):

Kedar’s CA 220 for six in 30 overs (S. Arvind 94, Yogesh Narayanan 28, P. Ajith 29) bt TE-IPL CA 103 in 19 overs (Shyam Sundar 36, Varun Vamsi 39).

Santhome SA in final

Santhome SA and Chennai St. Bede’s Sports Foundation (CSSF) recorded convincing semifinal wins to set up a rematch of last year’s final in the under-16 Panasonic-LMCA Twenty20 Cup cricket tournament.

S. Selva’s three-wicket haul helped defending champion Santhome defeat Kedar CA. CSSF outplayed LMCA in the other semifinal.

The final, scheduled on Wednesday at Railway Stadium (Perambur), will be inaugurated by Sri Lankan off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan.

The scores: Santhome SA 120 in 20 overs (B. Rahul 28, Sasidev three for 16) bt Kedar CA 96 for seven in 20 overs (S. Selva three for 18). MOM: S. Selva.

LMCA 77 in 20 overs lost to CSSF 78 for four in 16.2 overs. MOM: Jitender (CSSF; for figures of two for nine).

Volleyball event

The SRM university volleyball teams will participate in an international friendship tournament, organised by the Volleyball Federation of Sri Lanka, to be held at Colombo from May 2 to 8.

The contingent will consist of 35 members, including the coaches and managers.
