CHENNAI: The primary objective of the Bharat Sevak Samaj (BSS) is to find and develop avenues of voluntary service to the people, Nagaland Governor K.Sankara Narayanan said here on Wednesday.

Inaugurating the BSS’ annual action plan meet, he said the organisation would promote national sufficiency and build up economic strength of the country, including promotion of social well-being of the communities.

Mr. Sankara Narayanan emphasised that for carrying out various tasks of the organisation adequate funds should be made available to its volunteers. A proper system of accounts, audit, records, reports and returns should also be brought into force, he added.

According to V.N. Rajasekharan Pillai, Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi National Open University, a lot of knowledge and skills are available with ordinary people. Organisations such as BSS should identify such talents and provide adequate facilities to improve the knowledge of ordinary people to improve and help society.

The BSS should interact with universities and polytechnics to provide better training on various skills to the members of the organisation, he said, adding the demand for skilled manpower would increase in a few years.
