CHENNAI: Eight persons who have excelled in their area of operation in the construction industry were honoured with the ‘Builders Award’ at a function organised by the Southern Centre of Builders’ Association of India (BAI) here on Wednesday. The awards were classified under four categories — construction contractors, builders and promoters, those who construct dams and bridges, and those who have used innovative materials for construction. L.Murthy, Ravi Meenakshi Sundaram and T.V. Ramakrishnan were given awards under the category of construction contractors. Rajeeva Constructions and Rajarathinam Constructions bagged the award for their structures under the category of builders. While T.Chitty Babu, managing director of Akshaya Homes Private Limited received the award for the category of promoters, R.P.P. Selva Sundaram, chairman of R.P.P. Selvam Infrastructure Private Limited was conferred with the award for using innovative construction material. He used crust sand instead of river sand in his projects. The recipients received their awards from the president (Construction) and Member of Larsen & Toubro Limited K.V. Rangaswamy. Awards Committee chairman of BAI K.K.Chowdary said the awards were being given for the tenth consecutive year and recognised the efforts of the stakeholders in the industry. Mr.Rangaswamy highlighted the need to check the increasing price of raw materials. The occasion also turned out to be a felicitation function for former BAI president and chairman of Gammons India Limited T.N.Subbu Rao who celebrated his 80th birthday recently. BAI’s southern centre chairman M.K.Sundaram spoke.
