Bypass work to be completed by December

CHENNAI: Bypass road work in Chidambaram town is expected to be completed by December, Highways Minister Vellakoil M.P. Saminathan told the Assembly on Wednesday.

Replying to a query from A. Arunmozhithevan (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), the Minister said the work was being taken up under the Tamil Nadu Road Sector Project.

To another question on the functioning of electronic meters installed on autorickshaws plying in Chennai, Transport Minister K.N. Nehru said nine companies, which had supplied the meters, had been asked to assess the working of the meters of all the 40,000 vehicles. It would begin in two weeks.

To a query on the use of beacon lights on vehicles, the Minister said a government order had been issued, specifying dignitaries permitted to use them.
