Bill to amend Act introduced

CHENNAI: A Bill to amend Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act 1937 Act was introduced by Public Works Department Minister Durai Murugan in the Assembly on Tuesday.

The Bill inter alia provides for levy of excise duty or countervailing duty on alcoholic liquor for human consumption manufactured in the State and those imported from other States.

As the Central government had withdrawn the additional customs duty and special additional duty of customs levied on foreign liquor from June 3 last year, the government decided to levy a special fee on all alcoholic liquor for human consumption imported from other States and countries.
