Dam shutters to be opened on May 3

KATTAPPANA: Tamil Nadu will open the shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam on May 3 in view of the Veerapandi festival at Theni. Water will be allowed to flow through the Eraichipalam penstock pipes. Ever since Tamil Nadu stopped drawing water from the dam on March 17, the level has reached a record high owing to summer rain. The level was 133 feet on Tuesday. It is for the first time that water level has risen to such a high level during April. — Staff Reporter
