Temple watchman trampled to death
Coimbatore: A temple watchman was trampled to death by a herd of wild elephants on Monday night. Subramanian (55) of Chinnathadagam, along with his friend Kaliappan, were going up the hill to the Anuvavi Subramaniar temple.
On seeing the herd blocking their way, Kaliappan fled towards the foothills. Subramanian, who ran towards the temple, was trampled to death. When the police tried to remove the body for conducting a post-mortem, irate villagers blocked the van.
They kept the body on the road and staged a road roko demanding measures to end the menace of wild elephants straying into human habitations. — Staff Reporter
