Minister on guideline values

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Tourism and Registration Minister N. Suresh Rajan denied that there has been a 5000 per cent increase in guideline values after it was revised by the government on August 1, 2007.

Replying to a call attention motion raised by C. Govindasamy (CPI-M) in the Assembly on Tuesday, the Minister said after the revision of guideline values on April 1, 2003, they should have been revised in April 2006 for rural areas and in April 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 for urban areas. They were revised only in August 2007.

As per the revision, the guideline values in rural areas had been increased on an average by 91.68 per cent and by 80.79 per cent in the urban areas. As the revision had been approved by committee headed by District Collectors, there was no chance of a steep hike. If the public felt the value had increased substantially for their land, they could make representations to respective district committees.
