BRIGHT STRETCH: A view of the Jawaharlal Nehru Salai at Ekkaduthangal lit up by the high-mast lamp which was inaugurated on Tuesday. Chennai: Mayor M. Subramanian inaugurated three high-mast lamps along the Ekkaduthangal stretch of Jawaharlal Nehru Salai on Tuesday. The lights have been placed at Ambal Nagar junction, Poonamallee Road junction and Kalaimagal Nagar junction of Jawaharlal Nehru Salai at the cost of Rs. 20.97 lakh. The stretch has seen a growth in traffic in recent years, especially after several IT companies set up offices inside the Guindy Industrial Estate. The high-mast lamps are located in ward 140, of which the Mayor is the councillor. He also inaugurated 22 streetlights at the Arulayamanpet and Guindy-Alandur burial grounds. The ward would get 85 new streetlights this year, the Mayor said. The Chennai Corporation Council’s ruling party floor leader N. Ramalingam said that high-mast lamps could be put up in several other spots too. He requested that such a lamp be fixed in a spot near the Arumbakkam MMDA Colony. The Mayor agreed to the request. Road improvementMr. Subramanian said that the roads inside the Guindy Industrial Estate would be laid once the underground sewerage scheme is completed. “Already, people are being given sewerage connections and the project will be completed in a few months. The roads will definitely be laid before the rain,” he assured.
