Gagan takes lead

GREATER NOIDA (U.P.): Gagan Verma shot a four-under 68 to take the lead on the opening day of the LG Jaypee Open amateur golf championship at the Jaypee Greens golf course here on Tuesday.

Gagan was two shots ahead of Saurabh Bahuguna and Kapil Kumar.

The scores: 68 — Gagan Verma; 70 — Kapil Kumar, Saurabh Bahuguna; 71 — Rahul Bajaj; 72 — Moin Malak; 73 — H.S. Kang, Samresh Sardar, Suman Puri, Tarun Ghoghale; 74 — Arsh Deep Tiwana, Simarjeet Singh, Pritam Haridas, Angad Cheema and Abhishek Jha.
