Sports Minister welcomes IOA decision

NEW DELHI: The Union Sports Minister, M.S. Gill, has termed the decision of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to suspend the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) as “appropriate”.

In a statement on Tuesday, the minister said that the decision was necessary. “I have carefully noted the composition of the new selection committee. I would hope that they work in unison, and for the best interest of hockey and youth of India. In my judgment, it will also be necessary, to have a compact, well chosen and efficient new administration for the IHF. I am confident the IOA will address this”.

Two members of the selection committee, Ajitpal Singh and Zafar Iqbal, were appointed Government observers recently. — Special Correspondent
