Zardari, Shahbaz meet in Dubai

Atul Aneja

DUBAI: Co-chairman of Pakistan People’s Party Asif Ali Zardari has begun crucial talks in Dubai with president of the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) Mian Shahbaz Sharif on a road map to reinstate judges deposed by President Pervez Musharraf.

“This meeting is likely to be decisive and it deals with the restoration of the judges,” president of PPP’s UAE unit M. Akram Farooqui told The Hindu. He added that the talks were dealing with constitutional and legal issues which were being discussed threadbare. Given the legal overtones of the dialogue, experts are present in both the delegations.

Law Minister Farooq H. Naik, who belongs to the PPP and Hars Mohammad, a legal expert of the PML (N), are part of the delegations.

Mr. Farooqui said the PPP’s approach was to find a durable solution, based on a sound legal foundation.

The sources said talks could spill over to Tuesday as the visiting delegation is not departing on Monday.
