Baalu issue: Advani seeks PM’s statement

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, L.K. Advani, on Sunday demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh make a statement on Monday in Parliament on the “stinking scandal” involving Minister of Shipping,Road Transport & Highways T.R. Baalu.

Addressing a press conference here, the BJP leader alleged that the DMK Minister had admitted to having sought favours from the government for his sons. Besides, the Prime Minister’s Office had written as many as eight letters to the Petroleum Ministry recommending Mr. Baalu’s case, he said.

“Both the Houses would like to know the authoritative version [of the episode] from the Prime Minister.”

Mr. Advani said the “nepotism” by the Minister would cost the country dearly.
