College student run over by bus

CHENNAI: A medical college student, R. Aravind (20), was killed on Saturday after being run over by an MTC bus near the Secretariat on Kamarajar Salai.

According to the police, Aravind, a student of Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital, was travelling on his two-wheeler on Saturday afternoon. While trying to overtake a cyclist, he fell on the road and was run over by the bus (21 L from Broadway to Kelambakkam). He sustained head injuries and died on the spot.

Fatal fall

In another accident, Mohammed Rafi, a school student from Korukkupet, died after he slipped and fell off the bus on which he was travelling near Raja Annamalai Mandram, Esplanade, on Saturday.

According to the police, he was travelling on the footboard when he fell. He was admitted to the Government General Hospital, where he died in the evening. Elephant Gate traffic police are investigating.

Run over

On the same day, Srinivasa Rao (60) died in an accident in West Mambalam when a milk van ran over his leg.

He was returning home after purchasing milk early on Saturday. According to the police, he was taken to the Government Royapettah Hospital where he died. Pondy Bazaar traffic police are investigating.

One killed as lorry overturns

One person was killed and another injured when a tipper lorry overturned and fell on a car on GST Road on Saturday.

According to the police, Senthil Kumar (32), the driver of the car, died on the spot. Sampath, who was travelling in the car, sustained injuries.

The lorry was negotiating a ‘U’ turn when the accident took place. The Guindy traffic police are investigating.
