Globestar Telecom in semifinals

KOCHI: Globestar Telecom CC (Aluva) upset Muthoot Ernakulam CC ‘A’ by one-wicket to enter the semifinals of the 27th Coromandel Cement all-Kerala cricket tournament at the BPCL Oval here on Friday.

State Bank of Travancore (Thiruvananthapuram) also moved into the semifinals after scoring a seven-wicket win over Swantons CC (Ernakulam).

The scores: Muthoot ECC ‘A’ 177 in 29.2 overs (G.P. Unnikrishnan 50) lost to Globestar Telecom CC (Aluva) 168 for nine in 29.3 overs (Rejil Venugopal 45 n.o.).

Swantons CC (Ernakulam) 193 for six in 30 overs (Abhishek Hegde 62, Robert Fernandez 48, Firoz V. Rasheed 47) lost to SBT (Thiruvananthapuram) 194 for three in 25.5 overs (M.P. Sorab 65, Krisha Chandran 56 n.o.).

Tony scores century

A fine century by Tony Jose (108) enabled Kottayam to post a respectable total against Pathanamthitta at the end of the first day’s play in the South Zone under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at the Medical College ground, Kottayam, on Friday.

Rijo Philip, who scored 70 runs, complimented Tony Jose well as the host scored 328 in its first essay.

At the University stadium, a fine spell by medium pacer Arjun Krishna (five for 59) restricted Alappuzha to 237. Barring Vishnu Raj (72) and Rahul (67), none of the Alappuzha batsmen prospered against in form Arjun.

At stumps, Kollam was 45 for no loss in 18 overs.

The scores: Alappuzha 237 in 73.4 overs (Vishnu Raj 72, P. Rahul 67, Arjun Krishna five for 59) vs. Kollam 45 for no loss in 18 overs.

Kottayam 328 in 90 overs (Tony Jose 108, Rijo Philip 70) vs. Pathanamthitta 10 for no loss in six overs.

Galaxy CC posts win

Galaxy CC, Palakkad, scored a five-wicket win over Octopals Sports Club, Thrissur in the 25th Dr. M.S. Nair memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament at the KCA stadum, Perinthalmanna, on Friday.

In another match, Presidence CC, Perinthalmanna squeezed out a two-run win over Classic CC, Thiruvali by the VJD method after rain-interrupted the match.

The scores: Octopals Sports Club, Thrissur 55 in 18.3 overs (Manu Shekar four for 18, Ramesh three for six) lost to Galaxy CC, Palakkad 56 for five in 20.1 overs (Rahul Babu three for 15).

Classic CC, Thiruvali 130 in 27 overs (Rehman 57) lost to Presidence CC, Perinthalmanna 94 for five in 19.5 overs (VJD method).
