4 MW of power a day used for three-day meet
Aarti Dhar
NEW DELHI: As much as 4 mega watts of power was used a day to run the airconditioners and provide electricity supply for the three-day National Convention of District and Intermediate Panchayat Chairpersons that concluded here on Thursday.
Approximately 900 airconditioners and thousands of bulbs and tubes were installed at the makeshift camping ground in Burari where close to 8,000 delegates, including 1,500 women, from 26 States and Union Territories participated. For many, it was a luxury as their villages are yet to get electricity.
The Union Panchayati Raj Ministry had sought temporary connection for supply of 4 MW of power a day and any shortfall was to be taken care of by the diesel generator sets.
The participants were housed in large hangars, each having 288 beds with separate facilities for men and women, and catering was provided in two separate halls for those from north and south India.
Reception counters operated at the Indira Gandhi Domestic Airport and railway stations from where special shuttle buses were operated to the camping ground.
