Indian girls lose to China

NEW DELHI: The Indian girls lost 1-2 to China in the last league match of the Asia-Oceania World junior tennis tournament at Shenzhen, China, on Wednesday.

However, by finishing second behind China in the four-team Group ‘B’, India qualified for the knock-out phase and stayed in contention for a place in the World Group final to be played in the Czech Republic in August.

The results: China bt India 2-1 (Hao Chen Tang bt Natasha Palha 6-0, 6-3; Xiao Rong Dong lost to Ratnika Batra 2-6, 0-6; Hao Chen Tang & Ya Fan Wang bt Ratnika & Natasha 6-2, 6-3).
