Western Rly. wins a thriller
CHENNAI: Western Railway and Southern Railway were involved in a thrilling five-setter in the women’s section of the Panimalar-John memorial volleyball tournament at the Mayor Radhakrishan Stadium on Wednesday. The 25-16, 25-22, 23-25, 14-25, 15-8 scoreline in favour of Western conveys the intensity of the tie.
While Anita, Priya and Shibi were conspicuous for Western, Betsy was outstanding for Southern.
KSEB, Thiruvananthapuram, beat Sivanthi Club 25-22, 25-15, 25-10 in another encounter.
In the men’s category, defending champion Indian Bank made a good start with an easy straight-set victory over Integral Coach Factory. Kalaivanan and Ayappan contributed immensely in Indian Bank’s 25-20, 25-17, 25-8 win.
