CHENNAI: A two-day clinic by J.D. Walsh, U.S. basketball coach and Founder-Director of the JD Walsh Basketball School, commenced at JJ Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday. Co-sponsored by the Tamil Nadu Basketball Association, the workshop has been arranged by the Consulate General of the United States of America for its Access Programme Students (English language micro scholarship programme sponsored by the U.S. State Department). “It is good to be back in Chennai. This is my fifth visit to India. It’s been great experience whenever I have visited the country,” said Walsh, who taught the game’s basics to 30 boys and girls of Anjuman-e-Himayath-e-Islam MHSS, on Wednesday. “It’s nice to develop the game in different cities of India,” he added. Walsh, who will train the Home for Poor boys at the Madrasa-I-Azam Mosque Complex on Thursday, said he was keen to inculcate the values of team-work, perseverance, hard-work and communication through basketball. The 35-year-old American will next visit Kolkata, his fifth and last stop in India.
