Nazareth: Three spectacular saves in the tie-breaker by goalkeeper Jackson helped host Margoschis Recreation Club defeat Challengers Union Football Club, Chennai, 4-1 and enter the semifinals of the 74th annual Canon Margoschis Memorial Trophy State-level football tournament here on Wednesday. At the end of regulation time, the teams were level 1-1. The host Club took the lead in the 49th minute, when Sivasubbu headed in a flag kick taken by John. The equaliser came in the 70th minute. Vinayagam went on the left flank and sent a high centre, which was headed by Vignesh to the unmarked Karthick, who volleyed home. In the tie-breaker, Belton, Jebakumar and Gnanasingh converted the kicks for Margoschis. Goalkeeper Jackson then saved the strikes taken by Nasar Basha, Delhi Babu and Ganesan of Challengers Union. Football tournamentTwenty teams, including, defending champion Sports Authority of India, Chennai, will participate in the 43rd annual Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy all-India football tournament. Organised by the United Sports Club the tournament will commence at Kayalpatnam on May 6 with final slated for May 25. Some other important teams in the tournament are Food Corporation of India (Kolkata), MEG (Bangalore), Southern Blues (Bangalore), Rashtriya Chemicals (Mumbai), TTFC (Ahmedabad), New Sporting Club (Chhattisgarh) and Nethaji Sports Club (Chennai). — Sports Correspondent
