‘Satya Harishchandra’ CDs to be screened in schools soon

Bangalore: Befitting his stature in Indian cinema, film producer K.C.N. Gowda has decided to screen the Kannada classic “Satya Harishchandra” at schools across the State, free of cost. He considers it his “moral and social responsibility” to do so. The film, which was originally in 35 mm format and black and white, has now been converted into 16 mm format with colour in cinemascope and updated sound technology.

The coloured version of the mythological film, based on an episode in Mahabharata, embellishing the values such as truth, virtue, individual morals and political ethics, is set to release on April 24, the birthday of the Kannada thespian the late Rajkumar, who has played the lead role.

The 42-year-old film, produced at a cost of Rs. 8 lakh, had earned the distinction of being the first-ever south Indian black and white cinema to undergo colour transformation.
