Two more trains needed

Since only two Chennai-bound trains — Vaigai Express and Pandiyan Express —originate from Madurai, passengers from the city find it hard to travel between these two major cities. The other trains that pass through Madurai to Chennai are also always full. The railways should operate two more express trains — ond during daytime and another at night after the departure of Pandyan Express.

Find a lasting solution

Residents of Koodal Nagar and adjoining areas were pleased by the visit of Collector to the area during flood some months ago. Their expectation was that he would initiate discussion with the Public Works Depart to deepen tanks and canals, including the one leading to Sellur. But it was not to be. The recent rain exposed the plight of residents of Koodal Nagar since houses were surrounded by water for days together. The Collector, in coordination with the civic body representatives, must take efforts to find out a lasting solution to the flood problem.

T. N. Gnanapragasam,

Madurai
