Kingfisher plans package tours

S. Ganesan

To heritage and pilgrimage centres in and around Tiruchi

TIRUCHI: Kingfisher Airlines on Sunday launched daily services on Chennai-Tiruchi-Chennai sector and was planning to tie-up with the State Tourism Department to offer package tours to heritage and pilgrimage centres in and around Tiruchi.

“We would be talking to the Tourism Department soon on a tie-up to offer package tours to heritage centres and pilgrimage destinations such Srirangam, Velankanni, Thanjavur and Navagraha kshetras,” V.Raja, Regional Vice President (Sales), South India and South East Asia, Kingfisher Airlines Limited, told The Hindu here.

Mr.Raja was here for the launch of the airlines flight from Tiruchi to Chennai. N. Siva, Rajya Sabha Member, received the first flight from Chennai along with the Airport Director S.Sreekumar and other officials. Mr.Siva welcomed the introduction of the service and observed that Tiruchi was all set for rapid industrial growth over the next few years.

The airline viewed the Tiruchi market as one with immense growth potential as there has been a constant demand from the local industry for air connectivity to Chennai and beyond.

“Besides, corporate flyers, we expect our flights to cater to tourists since the city is very popular with pilgrims of all faiths,” Vijay Mallya, Chairman and CEO, Kingfisher Airlines, said in a statement released on the occasion. The launch of the Chennai-Tiruchi-Chennai service was a sort of re-entry for the airline. It had previously introduced a service on Bangalore-Tiruchi-Bangalore sector. The service remained suspended for some time but was resumed recently by Deccan. Tiruchi was the 40th destination for the airline. The airline would deploy an ATR-72 aircraft on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Chennai sector. The Chennai-Tiruchi flight (IT2911) would depart from Chennai at 12.45 p.m. and arrive here at 1.55 p.m.

In the return direction, flight (IT 2912) would leave Tiruchi at 2.20 p.m. and reach Chennai at 3.30 p.m. The fare on the sector would be Rs.3,274, inclusive of applicable fees, taxes and surcharge.
