Easy for Globestar

KOCHI: Globestar Telecom, Aluva scored a six-wicket win over Murugan Cricket Club to enter the quarterfinals of the 27th Coromandel Cement cricket tournament at the BPCL oval here on Sunday.

L. Rajalal struck a quickfire 71 off 22 balls as Globestar successfully chased a victory target of 139 with 13 overs to spare. Earlier, MCC was dismissed for 138 in 29 overs.

In another match, Muthoot Ernaulam CC ‘B’ defeated Oktopals Sports Club, Thrissur by seven wickets to enter the pre-quarterfinals.

The scores: Murugan CC 138 in 29 overs (Sreenivasan 35, Ganesh 34, V.S. Shiju three for 14) lost to Globestar Telecom, Aluva 139 for four in 17 overs (L. Rajalal 71)

Oktopals Sports Club, Thrissur 166 in 20 overs (C.P. Ramesh 48, M. Manoj four for 28) lost to Muthoot ECC ‘B’ 169 for three in 22 overs (Renju 63, C.G. Geethish 48).

Kozhikode District posts win

The spin of coin favoured Kozhikode District XI as it beat Loyola Cricket Academy after the match between the two sides, played as part of the 25th Dr. M.S. Nair memorial all-Kerala cricket tournament, ended in a tie at the KCA Stadium in Perinthalmanna on Sunday.

Chasing 174 for a win, Kozhikode XI needed nine runs to win off the last over.

With two balls remaining, the Kozhikode side needed only one run but lost its last wicket off the last ball of the match as the match ended with the scores level.

In another match, AG’s Office Recreation Club, Thrissur defeated Collegues CC, Manjeri by 54 runs.

The scores: Loyola CA 173 for nine in 30 overs (Amit 58, Shinod three for 23) lost to Kozhikode XI 173 in 30 overs (Arjun 86, Alfal four for 15). (Kozhikode won by toss)

AG’s Office Recreation Club, Thrissur 167 for eight in 27 overs (Jayraj 78, Srinath three for 14, Jabir three for 25) bt Colleagues, Manjeri 113 in 26 overs (Rijesh three for 13, Hisham three for 26).
