Woman, child drown in well

A 20-year-old woman died when she tried to save her 10-month-old girl baby who fell in to an open well near her house in Villivakkam on Saturday.

The police said that Shanthi, wife of Govindaraj, a casual worker, was busy in the kitchen when her daughter, Malini, who was playing nearby, crawled and fell inside the open well.

Hearing a loud noise, Shanthi rushed to the spot and to save the infant jumped in to the 25-feet deep well. Both of them died.

The Villivakkam police have registered a case.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem to the Government General Hospital.
