Setback for Indian team

HYDERABAD: The eight-member Indian rowing team arrived in Shanghai for the Beijing Olympics qualifying event, scheduled from April 24, without their oars which were misplaced, according to C. P. S. Deo, president of Rowing Federation of India.

However, Deo said that another set of oars had been airlifted from Hyderabad to Shanghai and hoped they would reach the Indian rowers at least by Monday evening.

The Indian team will compete in four events — men’s single sculls and light weight doubles sculls and women’s singles scull and light weight double sculls.

The team: Men: Bajrang Lal, Manjeet Singh and Devender Kumar. Reserve: Chand Singh.

Women: Pravasini Dwibedi, Dittymol Varghese, Thara Kurien and Meena Mahduri Toppo. — Principal Correspondent
