Endurance kart racing event flagged off

Nuvem (Goa): The first ever 24-hour endurance kart racing event was flagged off at the Go-A Karting track here by Babu Azgaonkar, Minister for Sports, Goa. Twelve teams including two from Malaysia and one from Sri Lanka are participating in this event,

The teams are permitted to have four to six drivers who can take turns to steer the karts over the 24 hours. Each driver is permitted to drive for only 120 minutes at a stretch and must have a mandatory 30-minute break between turns at the wheel.

There would be regulations at the pit stops for servicing, re-fuelling, tyre changes, clutch and engine maintenance work.

The event is being closely watched by five stewards from all over the country. Shrikant Apte, John Cherian, Rajan Syal, Dileep Desai and the owner of the Goa track Dr. Sydney Moraes would be sending their reports to the international body to see if it meets international standards and to put it on the international calendar. Sanjay Sharma, Head of Motor Sports, JK Tyre said this event would be an annual feature on the Indian karting calendar.

The teams: Team Amaron (Chennai), Mohites Racing (Kolhapur), Team Hakone (Mumbai), Kari Motor Speedway (Coimbatore), Speed Rayo Racing (Pune), Team Avalanche (Bangalore), Go-A Karting (Goa), Ladies Team, Team AMRC (Sri Lanka), City Karting (Malaysia), Kart More Racing (Malaysia) and Speed Arcee Racing. — Special Correspondent
