CHENNAI: The economic policies of the Central Government have pushed the country to a crisis, D.Pandian, State Secretary, Communist Party of India, said on Saturday. Inaugurating the two-day national delegates’ conference of the All-India State Employees Co-ordination Committee, he said the policies were anti-people. Though the Government claimed to have a huge amount in foreign exchange reserve, the question was whether it was used for development. Despite the tall claims about economic growth, he said, the country still had the largest number of illiterates and people living below the poverty line. K. Balasubramanian, State president, Tamil Nadu Government Employees Union, said the conference would discuss various issues, including the Sixth Central Pay Commission’s recommendations and their implications on State Government employees. G.L.Dhar, national secretary, INTUC; and Ranbir Dhillon, general secretary, AISECC, spoke.
