KOCHI: The Kerala Lalitkala Akademi is offering a platform for traditional artists as well as contemporary sculptors to share the energies of traditional artists from Chattisgarh. Minister for Culture M. A. Baby will inaugurate the 20-day workshop for folk and tribal artisans called Aala at the Hill Palace, Thripunithura on April 20. Nearly 100 artists from Chattisgarh and the State are participating in the camp. “This is meant to be an interaction between artists from either side. With the mechanisation drive, the traditional art has suffered a setback. Especially in regions like Mannar. This camp will be helpful in reviving the original vigour and interaction with folk and tribal artists,” said Sathyapal, secretary of the Akademi. Artists from places like Raigarh, Bastar, Narayanpur in Chattisgarh are participating in the camp. Artists Pandiram Mandavi from Gada Bengal, Meera Bangel from Kondagaon and Juntu Ram Sagar from Karanpur were present with Mr. Sathyapal. Besides metal casting, the workshop will feature artists working on wood and terracotta, he said.
